Nihon Matsuri 2012 will be in Salt Lake City from 10 am to 5 pm on the last Saturday in April. It's not really an anime convention, but there will be cosplayers there. To find out more about this festival, go to nihonmatsuri.com.

Looks like this won the Permanent Showing vote, judging by how I saw it before I left. I'm pretty stoked to be seeing this again. The first part of it isn't as good as the rest of it, but that's a personal thing. What do you guys think?

Basically, what your favorite manga is, be sure to include some reasoning, so that we can begin discussion.

Mine is Berserk. Despite the godawful update schedule, it has a combination of jaw-dropping art and a dark, intelligent storyline, that, while it has been copied a lot, still seems very original. Recently, it's been tough reading only a few chapters a month, but when (and if) it eventually ends, it will no doubt be a great read all the way through, IMO.

Was a pretty decent first couple of episodes. I'm still sitting on the fence for now, but I've heard this is one of the better Gundam series, and it seems the real potential of this series will only come to bear later on.

Anime vs. Manga

There's a pretty hardcore subset of both, and there's a lot of good reasons for or against each side. What are some of yours?

For me, I prefer the anime, usually. It's presented in a format that's easy for me to get into, and the higher production values really seem to give it life. I feel that when an anime is done properly, it works better than when a manga is done properly. However, anime has a generally higher rate of, for lack of a better term, failure in this department. The manga maintains the artists vision better, the production on the anime isn't up to par, or any number of other things can bring them down. It's a bit of a mixed bag.

Watched the first couple of episodes, but, based on the lack of votes, seems people didn't like it that much. I liked it from the beginning, but I can certainly see how it would be hard to get used to it before it hits its prime after a little while (as some reviews said). Anyways, here's a discussion thread, I'll be opening up some more for everything we watch, and if this forum takes off again, the one-off series we might watch will just get buried.

Seems none of the people from the club visit this place anymore. Is it because they have some issues with the registration, or just have given up on it? We could get some good discussion going on if we can get people to come on every week or so. I've started a few threads, but those haven't gotten much except from John.

Just figured I'd start the first of several discussion threads for the anime we're watching.

Anyways, I've watched this anime before, and it's amazing to me just how many times I can watch it with it still being so fresh. This series bleeds creativity, and the humor is especially keen. I'm a bit disappointed some of the other novels in this continuity haven't been adapted yet, but that's the nature of the best.

Dub vs. Sub

Pretty self-explanatory concept. Usually leads to flame wars, but since this is a fairly tight-knit group, at least to my knowledge, I figured I'd post it anyways.

As for my answer to most things, I have a bit of a mixed stance on this. I prefer dubs if the dub and sub are of equal quality, there's just something to be said for understanding the nuance better, but dubs are usually far worse in quality. Apart from a few notable exceptions, like Cowboy Bebop, or Baccano!, this is the rule. What do you guys think?

Alright, it took me over one hour to delete the 3,000+ spam posts and the 500+ spam accounts on this forum. As a result many proper threads were deleted (the mass selection button apparently did not care that I had deselected specific threads). I am very sorry for the loss.

Also with so many spam accounts it was very difficult to tell which accounts were real people and which were not, so I'm sure that many people no longer have accounts here that once did. I am sorry, but life in this forum will be better from now on.
